Sequestered with Shakespeare by Vikash Gope

 Sequestered with Shakespeare

On his wooden bed he in despondence lied,
The isolation clutched him and he sighed.
The ceiling shivered and the walls roared
While his chagrined soul in the ruins strolled.
Queen Silence dwelt in his desolate room
And he became her suit. Oh hapless groom!
He, then on an instant stare
Saw a book, named ‘Shakespeare.’
From the leaves he inhaled a fragrance
Of a long-forgotten life, rich with exuberance.
With the Bard’s verse he flew to the heath
Where the bearded-women met Macbeth.
Juliet and her Love’s harrowing end
Stirred his mind with a novel blend.
In the dead of the night he saw fright
With the fall of Hamlet, he was agonized.
Exposed to the feeling of Pity and Fear
He mourned the tragedy of King Lear.
Miranda’s chasteness and Portia’s witty statements
Pulled him out of all his deep and dark bereavements.
Eventually, within a fortnight’s time
He discerned – sequestered is no crime;
Life is cruel to all and not only to him
Its even beautiful, when free of whim!
