Tomorrow is Now

By Festus Moses ONIPEDE

Could it be that my teachers are telling lies?

I could remember then in my school days

That WE are the LEADERS of tomorrow

And I still wonder when it will happen.

What happens when gerontocrats rule?

How possible can agiliti skin be used for gbedu drum?

Will it be possible to crown a new king when the current one is still on the throne?

No will surely be your response.

If tomorrow must start now, Protest is the first attempt

Protest we all attempted, Pogrom it all resulted to

Why should protest result in pogrom?

WE need to ask our leaders

If WE the led must struggle for revolution, WE need to pay the sacrifice.

How do WE separate salt from water,

When WE have sifted and dried the liquid?

WE started the protest peacefully, our salt mixed with water.

No one could separate them; WE are neither called water nor salt

WE are erroneously called water, just because WE flood everywhere

Now that they tell us, ‘Not too young to rule’

It is like baits in the belly of a fish

They bamboozle some of us to achieve their dreams

Hoodlums, thugs, ruffians and robbers - the names WE are christened.

How long do WE stop drooling?

Let us wake from our slumber

WE can't continue to be second class citizens

Our birth rights must be claimed

WE are no more sleeping; WE are no more drooling

WE are no more drowsing; it is high time WE claimed our rights

WE youths are not too young to rule; WE are born to reign,

WE are born not to be followers,

Our tomorrow starts now!
