DAWN of 2020 – A Savour of Survival

Have you ever felt the happiness of watching your dreams sprout to reality? It is said that when opportunities knock at your door, do not hesitate to open. Let me introduce myself. My name is Dr Iswarya.V and I am a practicing dental surgeon in Kerala. Let me share with you my exciting journey from a dentist to an author. I am an avid reader and writer since childhood but never thought of becoming an author. When covid19 lockdown hit us, like in every field, dentistry was shut down for a while leaving me jobless. For the first few days, I relaxed as it’s been long since I got a chance to sit at home and do nothing. I passed my time watching TV series. Lockdown got extended and seemed to go on for a long span. Eventually, I was fed up with staring at screens all day. This was the time when I thought of diverting my thoughts to something creative.

I always support the gift of ‘time’. It is the most precious thing in our life and cannot be reclaimed that’s once lost. I thought about different areas which I could do inside the four walls of my apartment. My passion for reading and writing finally urged me to devote myself to pen and paper. Then emerged the most difficult question: What to write about? I pondered over this for a while and took suggestions from my close friends. Obviously covid19 had extended its deadly wings globally. Life came to a standstill. The year 2020 will always be remembered in history. I started writing about covid19. Once I started, I realised that becoming an author is challenging. I gathered information from various sources on how India fought the deadly killer. After I read my first draft, it felt like a documentary. I am a great fan of science fiction and crime thrillers. Frankly, I did not prefer my first book to be a non fiction.

I rewrote the whole script and molded it into a fiction thriller. I noticed that there were not many works on dentistry. I took care to weave a wonderful story under a dental scenario. The plot goes around a dental surgeon caught under mysterious circumstances due to a virus. All elements of human emotions such as love, friendship, betrayal and revenge have been incorporated. I have rewritten and edited the manuscript thrice to make it informative and good paced. It took great patience and dedication. Finally, I made it happen, my dream to be an author. This is a tribute to all covid19 warriors, field workers, government officials, bankers, grocery suppliers, delivery boys and every blessed soul who survived the pandemic.

To all my colleagues, seniors and juniors, to every aspiring individual out there, let me remind you that the hourglass keeps ticking forever. Chase your dreams. Seize the moment today and turn your dream to reality tomorrow. You may feel confused. You may feel low. You may feel that this is the end. But remember that when one door closes, another door opens. The end is the beginning.
